How did I get Fibromyalgia

Case studies until now have revealed very little about the way Fibromyalgia develops. Just a few facts are really worth of notice:

  • 70 to 90 percent of the victims are young to middle aged women.
  • Men, children and elderly people are very rarely affected.
  • The causes for this prevalence are unknown.

Fibromyalgia cases are often concentrated within certain families. Most likely there is a genetic disposition for the condition, but it is not established which one.

People who develop Fibromyalgia rather frequently show a history of mental or physical trauma, nervous distress, anxiety, extreme ambition, or serious stress over an extended period of time.

In other words: if you are female, do suffer from any stress related symptoms or did so in the recent past and already have a case of Fibromyalgia in your family – or a family member that complains about muscle pain and chronic fatigue – you should take any such symptoms very seriously and should not hesitate to see a specialist when you feel muscle pain or chronic fatigue over a period of several weeks.
